Let me say from the very beginning that I love my job. This blog is not going to be a diatribe against the NSC, the NHS, the EQA or any other three letter acronyms (although the old JVC camera units are a bit rubbish). No job is perfect, but I enjoy mine and I'm lucky to have the career I do. So whilst I may have the occasional moan about my working day, it should be taken as part of a bigger picture of overall job satisfaction. This site is not here to laser the new vessels of an imperfect system. It's just a place for me to recount my experiences and thoughts. Think of it as my ongoing quest for the perfect photo of IRMA and a clear definition of R2. It could be a long road...

Please keep it going -It’s our only avenue to knock those well meaning but somewhat out of touch Nationally based individuals who determine time wasting expensive activities that we have to undertake every month.
Just for the record a sense of melancholy has descended on our grading room. Nobody is staring at a blank screen muttering quiet obscenities whilst trying to load poor quality images from some web based exam system that keeps freezing and crashing, and then after four or five hours (if they are lucky) gives them a quite meaningless score.
Was it a R1 or R2? - What exactly does a deep round HM look like? and how many constitute multiple ? Somebody must know but they are not telling us, and if you get it wrong you won`t even learn something know for next time.
Can you really be censored in this way?
Who is going to suffer from reading this, with no names being mentioned?
Freedom of speech anyone?

Surely enough time has passed this funny, fabulous insight into the retinal screening world can start again? There have been changes at 'the top' and our national screening programme has 'bigger' matters than this blog. We need you to make us smile....please? (a friend!)
In total denial a patient told me that he wasn't diabetic anymore as he has had his foot amputated!.
I grassed him up to the surgery and the district nurse. Well at least he will be able to see the missing foot!
